Little Adventurers
Pre-K/Kindergarten Adventure Group
Designed for Ages 4-6
Thursdays 4-5:00pm
This program is intentionally designed for 4-6 year old children and their primary caregiver(s), including those already attending Kindergarten.
Little Adventurers utilizes nature play and exploration to build social skills, emotional awareness and regulation, as well as the building blocks of environmental awareness and accountability.
Parents and caregivers will participate alongside their little adventurer, focused on reinforcing strengths-based relationships and emotional connection through intentional play.

Little Explorers
Elementary School Adventure Group
Designed for Grades 1-5
Due to popular demand, we are now offering two Little Explorers Groups!
Monday Group: 4-5:30pm
Wednesday Group: 4-5:30pm

This group focuses on connection, FUN, exploration, movement and ADVENTURE to increase confidence and promote a healthy sense of self. Through the intentional use of experiential activities, participants will play cooperative games, learn new outdoor skills, practice social skills with peers, and engage their bodies and senses through their natural environment.
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to participate in family days and parent coaching opportunities to support their child at home.

Emerging Explorers
Middle School Adventure Group
Designed for Grades 6-8
Tuesdays 4-5:30pm
Our Middle School Group focuses on building outdoor skills like hiking, orienteering, fire building, and slack-lining to develop healthy relationships with peers and increase self-confidence and distress tolerance while creating a connection with the outdoors.
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to participate in family days and parent coaching opportunities to support their child at home.

Trailblazers
High School Bouldering Group
Designed for Grades 9-12
Fridays 4-5:30pm
Trailblazers will learn the adventure skill of bouldering at the NIU Rec Center!
​
Participants will be guided through the safety protocols, skills, and techniques to successfully move across the wall. Using the foundation of adventure therapy, we will utilize bouldering to process mental, emotional, and physical challenges as they come up for each individual and as a group.
We will utilize natural consequences as a teaching tool to understand how different choices lead to different outcomes. Participants will learn to successfully manage fear and gain resilience by working through the mental and physical challenges associated with the activity.

Climbing shoes and chalk provided to group participants. Be sure to wear comfortable clothes and bring a water bottle.
